Slow, Slow, Slow

Yea, haven't got much further... still only doing 2-3 mile trail runs, and my normal 70-80 miles/week cycling.

Anyway, the race is coming up again in Feb, so I'm back on the official training plan to see if I can finish it this time.

Here's to second chances ;)

Starting all over from scratch

If you did every read this... you'll notice that I stopped updating for about 5 months. No, I never did complete (or even come close to competing in) my first ultra-run.

why?

Well, I guess I'd like to blame it on my asthma. Not sure I can pin it all on that, but that's what started. The week after my previous post I had a very large asthma attack and had to go on steroids for about a month, and for 2 weeks of that I couldn't even ride my bike, never mind run. I felt I had gotten too far behind in the training to compete in the race (wouldn't have had time to build up my mileage), so I decided not to do it.

So now I'm back at it, with a 2 mile run today...

Week Six - Discovery Park

It's great running with friends when you can. This morning I went out to Discovery Park with Nari, Maggie, and Chris (though, Chris runs way too fast for me, so he humored the rest of us for about a mile and then took off...).

We ran somewhere between 7-8 miles all on trails - did the big loop that goes down to the water (by the sewer treatment plant, sadly) and then back up the hill to the small loop. Lots of fun, sweat and stairs.

Had my heart rate monitor on - said I stayed in my zone for about 45 minutes, with an avg heart rate of 158, max of 179. Total calories burned: 1900. Could that be right?

Either way, we were glad for the time change for sure...
